The name Caleres comes from the Latin word calēre
meaning to glow with passion or intensity. It’s that passion that helped our founder, George Warren Brown, forever change the way the world felt about fit. Before our company was born, shoemakers typically made the same shoe for both the right and left foot and it was difficult to distinguish shoes made for men and women.
To preserve the founding spirit of our company, we integrated the *5* mark of our quality into our logo. Introduced in 1885, *5* was stamped on the bottom of our shoes and represented our promise of fit and comfort. The company paid $5 to the wearer if the stamp wore out.
As a global footwear company, home to a diverse portfolio of loved and admired brands, Caleres has been ferocious about fit since 1878. The Caleres story is most simply defined by the company's mission: Inspire people to feel great...feet first. This includes creating sustainable value for all our stakeholders.
We offer retailers and consumers a carefully cultivated portfolio of leading brands. Outfitted in our brands, customers can step confidently into every aspect of their life.
Curious, creative people propel our company forward. Our differences are our strengths. What unites us are the values that drive us: Passion. Accountability. Curiosity. Creativity. Caring.
As one of the world’s largest footwear companies, we have an unparalleled global sourcing network. We view our suppliers as an extension of our business and strive to work only with companies that reflect our values.
How we do business is as important as how much business we do. That’s why Caleres has a long history of giving back to the communities where we live and work.
